About Earthwatch

Earthwatch Institute - Australia

Earthwatch Institute is an independent, non-profit environmental organisation. Our mission is to engage people worldwide in scientific research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. Earthwatch gives people the opportunity to be involved in scientific conservation research by becoming a member of a research team.

It is through this hands-on, experiential learning that Earthwatch meets its core objectives for obtaining a sustainable future:

Research

Earthwatch supports the field work of 120 research scientists around the world. Earthwatch teams help these scientists collect the base line data essential for sustainable management decisions.

Education

Earthwatch works to educate and inspire the next generation of leaders in education, business and communities through our research projects and education programs such as TeachLive, Student Challenge and our Capacity Building teams.

Conservation

Earthwatch assists in finding solutions for some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges through active and ground-breaking collaborations with conservation and preservation partners.

Unlike other environmental organisations, Earthwatch Institute puts people in the field where they can assist scientists in their field work. They are part of the action. They learn new skills and develop a deeper understanding of their role in building a sustainable future. We believe that teaching and promoting scientific literacy is the best way to approach and solve the many complex environmental issues facing society today.
