Exmouth District High School

Exmouth District High

Exmouth District High School is the only school in Exmouth. Exmouth has a population of approximately 2400 people. Exmouth is situated 1270kms north of Perth and is regarded as the gateway to Ningaloo Reef – a fringing coral reef approximately 260kms long and about 1/10th the size of the Great Barrier Reef.

The school has 86 high school students and 225 primary school students – this includes Kindergarten and Pre-Primary. The majority of high school students are in Years 8-10. Most students go to schools in Geraldton or Perth after Year 10 to complete Years 11 & 12 because we are limited in the subjects we can offer. Those students who choose to remain at the school for their last 2 years of schooling usually take VET options, however students studying TEE subjects have to do those through SIDE (School of Isolated and Distance Education).

Because of the school’s isolation, activities like swimming and athletic carnivals are modified to cater for the fact that we have no interschool competitions. The closest town is Carnarvon to the south – a good 4 hours drive. Once a year, our students play sport against students from Carnarvon but this is an overnight activity. For the last 2 years we have taken students from the High School to Country Week. This is a sporting competition held in Perth for students who live in the country. All the students put a lot of time and effort into fundraising for this week long event.
